This is the second and final part of the Life & Times story of Baby Boomer – Dom Barbuto.
In part 1 we learned that Dom came to Australia from a small island off the coast of Sicily in the mid to late 1950’s. He and his family established themselves in Melbourne and the young Dom recognised that he had a talent for drawing at a young age, talent he honed and that helped him develop creative connections in the entertainment world.
This week we learn that Dom’s art design freelancing, while working for the Public Service, becomes more and more successful and profitable. he is at a crossroads and makes the decision and leaves the public service and in 1985 sets up his own business – Visible Ink.
Through hard work Dom wins contracts to design for major TV shows such as “The Price Is Right”, Family Feud” and other similar game show programs.
As a result of this success and his growing contacts in the entertainment world, he begins to design posters and a range of other materials for major music tours such as those by Jimmy Barnes, Dizzy Gillespie, Transvison Vamp and Joan Armatrading – to name but a few.
Dom is in his creative element and although he is working almost non-stop his career in design moves from local to national to international work. Yet, he finds time for relationships and meets and marries a Swedish girl leading to an amazing journey to Sweden. However, this relationship was not to last and to Dom’s delight he meets the right woman now he is happily in a relationship with Jane.
However his work & story doesn’t stop with his design business. We learn about the Debonairs – a music industry support group that meets at least once a month for lunch and to raise money for Support Act.
Support Act an organisation that directly supports music industry people in need. Through organising monthly lunches for the Debonairs, that can bring up to 300 people at various times, significant amounts of money for industry welfare has been raised.
There is so much to Dom’s story so we make a start with Dom talking about the development of his company – Visible Ink.
