Christmas: a time to keep up our giving at
Christ Church Mission’s Community Centre, St Kilda
This year we have provided more than 6,500 meals to people including families and the number keeps rising. Christmas is a time for giving particularly to those in need. Since the recent easing of COVID-19 restrictions, we are delighted to see the return of people enjoying again the variety of activities which makes our Centre the dynamic hub that it is. The Patchwork and Quilting group has brought back the buzz with their creativity, the Kitchen Garden is once again preparing for summer crops and the Garden Nomads are sprucing up local gardens in time for the festive season. The Centre is able to thrive because of the help that is provided by at least fifty volunteers and the support and generosity of individuals, partner groups, organisations, grants and donations. If you could help us expand into 2022, please donate now.

Meet our Manager
Elizabeth joined our community when she made the momentous shift from her home in inner-city Sydney to her new neighbourhood, St Kilda, 4 years ago. When settling in, Elizabeth set about exploring the area for opportunities where she could implement her skills and match her goals. For the Centre, her timing was impeccable, as a vacancy appeared – one that required her drive and experience. We have been fortunate to have Elizabeth join the team in the Management role, as she has the determination required to accept the challenge and to set demanding goals plus the heart to empathise with the needs we address. Elizabeth, being an outgoing and confident leader, has continued to foster friendships and forge partnerships with local individuals and organisations. She has made sure more people know about our Centre and that is reflected in the increased demand for our services.
Reaching our full potential
And that has a double meaning: the full potential of those who use our service and the full potential of our Centre. We are here to support the realisation of the hopes and dreams of the diverse community members in the local area and surrounding suburbs of the City of Port Phillip. We get many referrals.
In addition to the provision of hot meals, fresh produce and food parcels to over 140 people each week, we provide skill development programs in the kitchen and garden to prepare people to take the next step towards community participation. We mentor, we train, we nurture – and we observe beneficial outcomes. We acknowledge that we can only do this with the generous support of volunteers, partnerships, philanthropic donations and grants. You’ll see some of our supporters below. So, as a challenging year comes toward the finish line, we collectively and on behalf of everyone who benefits directly from your help, whole heartedly thank you all.
