The annual St Kilda Film Festival has announced a move to winter for next year’s event, which will run from Friday 21 to Sunday 30 June 2019.

After years basking in the golden glow of autumn, Festival Director Paul Harris and new Festival Producer, Richard Moore, have teamed up at the City of Port Phillip to make the shift from May as part of a make-over for the 35-year old event.

“In 2019, we will open on the winter equinox; it seems right that St Kilda’s beloved annual celebration of short film should now open on the shortest day of the year. And as a bonus, patrons will be pleased to know that we will also be aiming for the shortest speeches in St Kilda film festival history.” Mr Moore said.

The date shift will be one of many changes to enhance the quality of the experience for both the community and the audience in 2019.

City of Port Phillip Mayor, Cr Bernadene Voss, promises exciting changes to the program and format of the 2019 event, to be announced in the New Year.

“St Kilda Film Festival continues to evolve each year but at its core it remains a celebration of Australian filmmakers. Next year’s event will see many exciting changes, including an expanded filmmaker development program, which we offer to the public as a community service.”

Submissions into the popular short film competition are set to open in November.
