This is one of the books I bought at Helena’s Curiosity Shop in Bentleigh. She helped me choose three books, but this one I picked up by myself because I like the author. It’s one of the book in The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series. This series seems to sit well with me despite having romance in it. It’s one of the few books I can read that aren’t ruined by the love interest. Why? I don’t know.
Mma Ramotswe continues to run her Detective Agency and this seems to be successful. She’s even being asked to help find a husband for a lady…or rather to check which out of four men want her for her money. Meanwhile Mr J. L. B. Matekoni is being plagued by his apprentices and also Mma Potokwani, the matron of the Orphan Farm.
This is a short book and I’m finding it hard not to give spoilers so I won’t write too much about the workings of the book.
One of the things I like about this series is that it portrays a different way of life. It’s more relaxed, and the people tend to sit a little to let themselves relax into the situation. It would be lovely to live in a slower environment where you can sit and drink a cup of tea before launching into why you’ve entered a particular office. In our world, we have to launch into our problem with little more than ‘hello’. I’m looking out for more books like this with a slower pace. I’m not promising to read them slower, because I can’t slow down, but it would be nice to experience a slower pace through a book.
In case you’d like to please me by clicking on the link you can find it here. I’ve chosen the cheaper book despite preferring the cover of the more expensive copy. Thank you to all who have clicked since last week.
