The most recent Census data shows more than 45,000 people under the age of 25 are facing homelessness. Nearly a quarter (23%) of all Australians experiencing homelessness are aged 12 to 24 years.

Lighthouse Foundation is a Victorian-based charity which provides homes and therapeutic care programs to young people impacted by long-term neglect, abuse and homelessness. Their focus is to create caring communities where all young people – from babies through to young adults – can feel safe, form meaningful relationships and begin to heal from traumatic experiences. Ultimately, their vision is to end youth homelessness in collaboration with the community, corporate and philanthropic partners.

Inspiringly led by Founder, Susan Barton AM, who has dedicated her life to helping Victoria’s most vulnerable children and youth over the past 33 years, Lighthouse’s proven Model of Care has successfully transformed the lives of over 1,230 young people using a range of evidence-based strategies, brought to life by passionate, supportive people. To reach as many at-risk young people as possible, Lighthouse also educates and supports foster carers and families in the same way, so that they too can provide some of Australia’s most vulnerable children with a lifelong sense of belonging.

In an era where emphasis on ESG impact reporting is paramount, Lighthouse Foundation is thrilled to have completed our first ESG report by which we aim to communicate effectively with our partners, demonstrating our commitment to addressing youth homelessness through a sustainability lens.

Our decision to embark on this sustainability journey was motivated by several factors, all in line with our ambitious strategy to magnify our impact and bolster our mission to end youth homelessness. By showcasing our ESG credentials, we not only acknowledge our partners’ needs but also underscore our ability to provide clear impact measurement results for their ESG reports.

Looking ahead, this investment in sustainability will enable us to maintain our focus on delivering quality, best-practice care and drive the expansion of youth services through collaborative efforts with our partners and empowered communities. Through our inaugural ESG report, we aim to demonstrate the need for prospective partners to select Lighthouse as their preferred partner of choice. Our partners can now also refer to their contributions to our achievements in their own ESG reports.

We also have opportunities for individuals and groups to make a difference to young people experiencing homelessness while exploring the great outdoors, by joining their Light to Light trek taking place in May-June this year. Lighthouse Foundation is organising this trek to help raise awareness and vital funds for their Lighthouse Homes, Foster and Family Care and In Community care environments.

Participants will walk from Boyd Tower to Green Cape Lighthouse on the far south NSW coast and discover hidden beaches, pristine estuaries, and ancient geological formations. There’ll be opportunities to spot wildlife such as seals, seabirds and whales, and learn about the Aboriginal heritage of the area and local plants and animals. Not only will the scenery be beautiful and the trek a great adventure, you’ll also get to hear real life stories of young people who have been through Lighthouse’s programs and broke the cycle of homelessness.

Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or a beginner who wants to step outside of your comfort zone and make a difference to children and young people experiencing homelessness, join Lighthouse Foundation in May-June for the Light to Light walk. This will be a challenge, but one that pales in comparison to the challenges that young people experiencing homelessness, face. Make this journey from lighthouse to lighthouse to show vulnerable young people that there is light to be found after darkness.

Limited spots available – don’t miss this once in a lifetime opportunity to make a difference. Click here to register/learn more
