E-cigarette’s started out as a mechanical alternative to cigarettes but have grown to be much more than that. There is now an entire culture and vocabulary that goes along with e-cig’s and there are certainly some unusual term’s to learn. If you’re a new e-cig user then it might be a little confusing, learning the language of e-cig’s can take time.
Here are some of the most common terms you might come across and what they mean:
Squonkers
Squonkers are an increasingly popular mod that can help to improve the e-cig experience. They’ve been around for a while but they’re starting to gain a lot of attention in the e-cig’s and vape community.
Squonkers are basically bottom-feeders that allow for hands free, mess free dripping. A lot of vape user’s prefer this as it gives better flavour.
Squonkers have a lot of benefits for e-ciggie users who have had trouble with drip mechanism in the past, but aren’t popular with those who don’t favour mechanical mod’s as they are usually mechanical. It’s now becoming more common to find them with internal regulation however.
Drippers
Dripper’s are similar to squonker’s but instead of squeezing the liquid up onto the cotton and coil, vape user’s will drip their e-liquid directly onto the coil. This can improve flavour but can be very messy and frustrating as it must be done manually.
It’s popular with a lot of mod enthusiasts out there though, especially those that like to make their own coils.
Cloud chasers
This is a term that refers to vape users who prioritise big clouds and tricks when it comes to their e-cigarette and e-liquids. There is a vibrant online culture and in-person scene of people who will practice and show-off tricks with their vapour clouds and a number of mod’s and e-liquid’s that cater to the crowd.
It involves quite a lot of skill and is one of the most recognisable parts of vape culture.
e-Juice
This is a collective term that refers to the liquid formulations that feed into the e-ciggies’s to become vapour and be inhaled by users. There are two common forms of e-Juice, Vegetable Glycerine and Propylene Glycol. Both types come in many different flavours and strengths of nicotine and have different pros and cons. Vegetable Glycerine tends to be favoured by cloud chasers because it creates bigger vapour clouds, whilst Propylene Glycol has a better flavour hit.
Mod
This tends to refer to second generation or more advanced e-cigarette’s favoured by more experienced vape user’s. They usually include more premium parts and can be more easily modified, unlike some of the starter e-cigarette’s purchased by entry-level users.
Sub Ohm
Sub Ohm refers to vaping e-cigarette’s with a coil that have a resistance level of less than one ohm. Ohm’s are the standard of measurement of how much resistance is registered to the flow of electricity.
Sub Ohm vaping creates bigger clouds, creates more flavour and gives bigger single hits of nicotine so it’s popular with many users and cloud chasers.
It is not however good for new user’s and is not efficient on e-juice.
Vaper’s Tongue
Vaper’s tongue simply refers to taste bud burn out, which is a common complaint from those who smoke e-cigarettes. It’s usually not serious but it is annoying and a sign of e-cigarette overuse.
Throat Hit
This is essentially referring to the feeling you get when the vapour hits your throat, some e-liquid’s or delivery methods will have a better hit then others. Many people prefer this, especially if they were ex-smoker’s as it’s more similar to the feeling of smoking a cigarette.
