Yarra’s Leaps and Bounds Music Festival announce new creative team and 2017 festival dates

‘Sounds Of Winter’

Yarra City Council is pleased to announce that the fifth annual Leaps and Bounds Music Festival is set to take over Australia’s busiest and most diverse gigging municipality from 13 – 23 July and introduce its 2017 new creative team.

What originally began as a push to back local venues, musicians and business through the quiet of winter, Leaps and Bounds Music Festival continue to nurture our thriving music community, showcasing homegrown talent from up and coming locals, to internationally acclaimed artists alike.

Opening Thursday 13 July, the 10-day festival will host a massive spread of over 300 diverse events catering to all budgets, and will feature around 900 acts from electronic to hip hop and jazz to rock, taking place across 50 participating venues in Fitzroy, Collingwood, Richmond, Abbotsford, North Carlton, Clifton Hill and North Fitzroy.

With well over 50 years collective experience in the music and creative arts industries, this year’s Leaps and Bounds creative team is made up of five dedicated, talented individuals who are excited to bring both new ideas and classic favourites to this year’s event.

Announcing: Head of Programming Sean Simmons (Founder of Press Play, booking agent at Premier Artists/Mushroom Group and musician), Partnership and Events Belinda Collins (Founder of The Social Crew, Producer of The Age Music Victoria Awards, White Night Melbourne and Melbourne Festival), Publicity, Marketing and Events Sarah Guppy (This Much Talent and Besser Space) and Yarra Youth Services will be taking the lead on the Youth Programming.

The Festival sees some familiar faces returning, including founding Leaps and Bounds member Justin Rudge (also of Public Bookings, and programmer at The Spotted Mallard) in his new role of Industry Development Coordinator, and Jason Tamiru as the Indigenous Advisor (Smith Street Dreaming and The Malthouse Theatre).

The team is pleased to announce the return of some of the festival’s unique event favourites such as ‘Smith Street Dreaming’, and of course, Leaps and Bounds own iconic ‘Bus Tours’ with more to be announced soon.

Leaps and Bounds Music Festival brings the warmth that our thriving music community inevitably craves at this time of year, and provides continued support to local artists, venues, and businesses with a smorgasbord of gigs to suit any punter’s palate.

Leaps And Bounds Music Festival is commissioned by the City of Yarra.
