Lime, the world’s largest micromobility provider, has partnered with One Tree Planted to plant a total of 20,000 trees in the Cassowary Coast region in Queensland to increase decarbonisation and restore a total of 8 hectares of land.

The Facts

  • 20,000 trees planted
  • 60+ tree species planted
  • 5 families benefited
  • 8 hectares reforested
  • 6 jobs supported
  • 100 volunteers involved

These efforts were a result of a campaign promoting Lime Prime passes, Lime’s monthly membership service, where $1 per Lime Prime rider was donated to fund this initiative.

The restoration project took place on a property located in the buffer zone of Japoon National Park in the Cassowary Coast Shire of Tropical North Queensland. The property was recently purchased by a local community member who is passionate about restoring it for local biodiversity. The region is a critical habitat for Platypus, the Southern Cassowary, and Mahogany Glider.

The project’s goal is to reforest the property to its natural state, restore key ecosystems and habitats for the region’s wildlife, and provide a source of food for the local community. The restoration efforts involved replanting native trees such as Eucalyptus, Melaleuca, Acadia, and Pandanus, as well as the reintroduction of locally sourced species to create a biodiverse habitat.

“We know how important our mission is to our riders, and we are always eager to find ways to support our most loyal riders in ways that enhance this mission, ” said Andrew Savage, Global VP and Head of Sustainability at Lime.

“With this great tree planting project in Australia, a region, like so many, impacted by climate change, we loved the idea of our local riders supporting reforestation on their behalf, cleaning the air and supporting the local ecosystem.”

Beth Dalgleish, Regional Project Director Asia Pacific for One Tree Planted said “We are so grateful for the support from Lime, which enabled 20,000 trees to be planted in the incredible Wet Tropics region of Far North Queensland.

“This project is about creating healthy, biodiverse habitats for some of Australia’s most unique and threatened species, including the Southern Cassowary, the Mahogany Glider, and the Platypus. Around 100 volunteers from the local community came together to plant these trees, taking the opportunity to give back to nature and connect with like-minded people.”

Hugo Burt-Morris, Lime ANZ General Manager said “Sustainability is at the heart of Lime’s mission and our entire Australian-based team is proud to see this partnership with One Tree Planted come to life. The Far North Queensland region is a special part of the world, and we are excited to be using these funds to support such important projects.
