The sport of go-kart racing is one of the most popular forms of motorsport throughout the world. This is because it has something for everyone. Whether you are a complete beginner or race veteran, there will be something at every track to test yourself and improve your game. All you need to get started is a willing attitude and a little preparation when it comes to go karting for kids & adults.

Are you a first-time go-kart driver and not sure what to expect? I’m going to tell you exactly what happens during your very first race.

Wear comfortable clothing

Many people can be reluctant to go-karting in fear that they won’t feel comfortable in the necessary attire. Many kart tracks require riders to wear helmets and head coverings, and it’s not uncommon to see long-sleeve shirts and pants when you check in. Here are a few tips on how to make sure you’ll be at ease when heading out to the race track. Wear comfortable clothing when visiting the track. Long pants, closed-footed shoes, and short sleeves are recommended. Safety equipment is required while driving a go kart – a helmet with a shield and a vest.

Pick the right go-kart

As important as it is to pick the right kart, not many people consider the driver. Among all the other things that must be considered while you are looking for a go-kart, your height is one of the most crucial aspects. Without the right fit, these high-performance racing machines won’t make any sense because you will get tired quickly and lose lap times (leaving your competitors to pass you by).

It’s funny how something that’s small and seemingly irrelevant can have such a big impact on our performance—loading up into your go-kart after the warm-up lap is always interesting. It’s almost like the race has already started—you look around at your competition, making a note of what they are wearing, their physical fitness, and even their state of mind. Do they seem confident or are they playing games on their mobile phone? These are all factors that can make a big difference later in the race.

Take the right sitting position

In a similar manner, understanding your body position when driving a go-kart or a car can have a big influence on your overall performance. This is because you will be able to reach the pedals (gas and brake) conveniently and easily, which will ensure that you can make swift and agile inputs to drive accurately.

Check the pedals

Many people think going karts are going to be a very easy ride, but it is surprisingly difficult. In fact, you might get the go-kart stuck in a ditch or get involved in a major accident if you don’t know how to operate one. One of the most important things to do when riding a go-kart for the first time is to take a few practice laps at your local racetrack.

Don’t drift

Whether you’re just starting out or have been an avid go-kart rider for some time, there are a few things that you should know. I have over fifteen years of karting experience and have learned quite a few things throughout the years. While it might look awesome to many, drifting may slow you down on the go-kart racing track, and it’ll also decrease your momentum with each lap.
