Just when you thought that your camping experience couldn’t get any better, you introduced the idea of bringing your very best (and furriest) friend along for the ride! Bringing that dog of yours to the campsite is going to majorly elevate your experience and really make you feel like the outdoors is home to the both of you. Unfortunately, it’s not as simple as snapping in the dog’s seat belt and heading off – there’s a bit of research and prep that you need to do beforehand in order to have a great trip with your four-legged friend. That preparation mostly involves finding a campground that you and your pooch can happily reside in. Here are five wonderful, pet-friendly camping spots within a few hours of Brisbane to spark your imagination…

Sandy Creek, Sunshine Coast…

Situated just one hour from Brisbane, this open, grassy ground is perfect for camping with your pooch. Filled with exciting wildlife, rock pools, shady trees and space for your dog to run, this place truly is local family heaven. Sandy Creek is your spot for safe, well-kept campsites that serve up just as much relaxation as they do adventure. Your pets are absolutely welcome; however, you’ll need to bring their leash along too – it’s a well-enforced camp rule.

Gordon Country Campgrounds…

Gordon Country is a fantastic camping spot for a weekend out in the great outdoors! Offering both powered and unpowered sites, there’s something for everyone here. Check out the open, grassy plains, exotic bush, freshwater creeks and roomy campsites all with your dog by your side! There are flushing toilets and solar-powered showers, all within one kilometre of all campsites. Access Gordon Country with your 2 or 4WD and enjoy your exciting, sociable getaway.

Cordalba State Forest…

Cordalba is one of Queensland’s lushest forest camping locations. The grounds are just littered with amazing views, exciting wildlife and invigorating walking trails. Revel in the eucalyptus trees, spot a few owls or venture on bike through the thick of the forest, it’s an adventurer’s dream here, really. Dogs are permitted for bush camping at Cordalba State Forest. Keep in mind that this is walk-in camping only, so your car or trailer won’t be able to accompany you. There are also zero facilities, so this is for advanced campers only.

S.S Dorrigo Campground…

The Inskip Peninsula area at the S.S Dorrigo Campground is perfect for travelling with your four-legged friends, as long as they’re kept on a leash and away from the freshwater creeks located on-site. This is a favourite spot for pet-friendly beach camping with stunning views of Fraser Island and surrounding beaches. Enjoy the sun and sand with your dog by your side this summer, hey, you both deserve it!

Amamoor Creek Camping Area…

Your dog can accompany you to the Amamoor Creek Camping Area in the Amamoor National Park as long as you bring your leash. This amazing ground is perfect for pitching up and settling into your site. With treatable water, shade, barbeques, in-ring campfires, picnic tables and a whole forest to explore – you and your pal are in for a comfortable, varied trip here. Bring along your camper trailer and enjoy the stunning views, walking tracks and creek with your pets, all year round.

Any one of these five spots is perfect for a getaway from the city! With all these located just a couple of hours outside of Brisbane, it’s about time you cancelled those weekend plans and got packing your trailer. Camping with your loving dogs is the best way to switch off from the hustle and bustle and truly connect with nature.
