An elderly woman has been rescued from a house fire in Melbourne’s north after flames broke out at a Thomastown property this afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the single-storey brick home at Unit 1, 39 Darebin Drive about 12:30pm, where crews arrived to find the property impacted by fire.
Firefighters moved quickly to enter the home and safely remove the resident, an elderly woman, who was, at approx 1pm, handed into the care of Ambulance Victoria for assessment at the scene.
The house, described as a brick construction with a tiled roof, sustained fire damage as crews worked to bring the situation under control.
Early reports suggest the blaze may have been sparked by a battery left on charge inside the home, though authorities have cautioned that the exact cause is yet to be confirmed.
Specialist fire investigators will examine the scene to determine how the fire started.
