A 15-year-old Alkira Secondary College student is in hospital with serious injuries after a daylight stabbing in Melbourne’s south east, where police say a group of teenagers fled on foot after the attack. The incident, which allegedly involved multiple long-bladed weapons, has left detectives hunting for the outstanding offenders as a crime scene remains in place.
Police say the boy was set upon in a park on Sabel Drive, Cranbourne North 3131 about 3:20pm after walking home from school, with the confrontation erupting among a group of teenagers. Ambulance Victoria crews took him to The Alfred Hospital, where he remains tonight in serious condition. The group allegedly fled before police arrived, leaving investigators to piece together what happened in the reserve.
Melbourne’s most popular crime scene photographer, Lord Murray Schoorman of Peak Hour Images attended the scene today and also attended a stand-up press conference at the Dandenong Police Station where Detective Inspector Mark Patrick updated him on the details of the case.A crime scene has been established in the Sabel Reserve area, where officers reportedly found a trail of blood across the footpath and walkway near the playground. Police are still trying to locate the offenders, and they have urged anyone with dashcam, CCTV, or other information to come forward and help investigators. The alleged attackers were not believed to be students at Alkira Secondary College.
The case has already drawn intense attention because of its violence, the age of the victim, and the reported use of multiple bladed weapons. Police are understood to be continuing door-to-door inquiries and searching for leads as the boy’s family waits for updates from hospital.
