Listen To Older Voices presents the stories, views and opinions of our older citizens. It is predominantly in a life & times format, with interviewees reflecting upon their lives from earliest memories. An underlying principle of the program is to promote the concept of positive ageing, reinforcing the principle that older people have & continue to make a valuable contribution to both their local & wider community.[/vc_column_text]

This is the first part of a 3-part program that features the Life and Times of Anita Monk.

Anita has worked extensively over many decades in the Australian music scene but is probably best known for her devising and developing Wrokdown TV show. Later in the program we will look at both Wrokdown TV and Wrokdown radio. The program starts with Anita recalling her early life.

A young Anita

Family means a lot to Anita and she was very close in particular to her brothers and sisters. It was with them that she learned to sing harmonies. This developed a skill supported by natural talent that would hold her in good stead in the future.

During part 1 of her story we learn how her father introduced mud trailing in cars. However, when she discovered how expensive it could be, she dropped right out.

For Anita her early years were among the best times of her life and things only got better. She formed a number of cover bands before joining the iconic Aussie group – Goanna, in a support role

It should also be mentioned that Anita has a dog – Colin, who loves being the centre of attraction. So you will forgive Colin’s interruptions and his crunching on bones, it was after all part of our interview.
