This is part 1 of a 3-part program featuring Baby Boomer John Hanley.

Born in Melbourne in the late 1950’s, John is the epitome of a Baby Boomer who has embraced life to its fullest. He is a qualified Engineer, a Black Belt Dan, a skydiver, a musician and composer and, an inventor.

In part 1 of his story John talks about his early life and his family, all of whom have been on the stage at sometime. He talks about his primary school experiences at the North-West Brunswick State school, where he was placed in a progressive program with selected students from all grades in the one classroom where the older students assisted each age group below them.

John was truly living in a multi-cultural environment and his story explains why and how this was. It really emphasises how wonderful it was to be a kid in the 1950’s.

Johns story is filled with tales of billy carts, making a crystal radio, exploring drains and in fact, as he emphasises, there were few restrictions placed on kids as long as they were home for the evening meal.
