Welcome to a brand new program in the ongoing series of Listen To older Voices. This is a 4-part program featuring the Life and Times of 77 year old Michael Dillon.
Born in the Victorian town of Manangatang in 1944, while we listen to Michaels stories of growing up in this country town, it reminds us that such country towns were much larger at the time when he was a boy and had thriving communities, and in this community, his family were held in very high esteem.

He had what we might think of as a classic country town experience, from attending stock sales through to catching rabbits.
Then in 1955 the family moved to Bendigo, a move that the family adapted to, except maybe his mother. It IS a change of lifestyle and while it is difficult to tie this change in with Michaels future, it did lead to changes that would have an amazing impact on him and his future international career as a potter and designer, all of which would be really kicked off with his work with the British company Wedgwood.
This was to be an amazing career and one that nearly never eventuated, when as a boy, he contracted peritonitis.
