This is part 1 of a 3-part program featuring Pasquale Colodonato.
Born in 1935, Pasquale gives us a wonderful insight into a lifestyle that has rapidly passed. It’s an insight into the life of a man from a rural Italian family before, during and after WWII.
We learn how Pasquale, at the young age of six, was a shepherd, often sleeping in very basic huts in the hills around his village.
Accompanied only by his Maremma dogs, which were used to protect the sheep from wolves, his life was as a young man something straight out of a novel.
They were for Pasquale, wonderful years. Wonderful until WWII came along! Because of the war, he lost his father, he lost his home and, he lost his way of life.
Then, at wars end something remarkable happened that bought pride to his mother and an amazing future for Pasquale.
