However every now and again there is an exceptional story. The story of Pat Grotaers is the story of an amazing woman who had to overcome serious adversity.
Her story is both inspirational and fascinating.
Originally broadcast in March 2011, it is indeed a Golden Moment story that deserves to be retold so that those who missed it the first time can enjoy it now.
This is Part 1 of a 3-part program. Patricia (Pat) Grotaers was born in 1947 in Eversham, Worcestershire in the UK. With undiagnosed dyslexia she was labeled stupid and was even locked in a school cupboard as punishment for being “stupid”. What made it even worse was, she was forgotten.
As we will learn over the 3-parts of this program, even though dyslexia is a serious form of a learning disability, it was neither considered as a barrier or an excuse for Pat. We listen in amazement as she tells her story of growing up. While telling this story we begin to understand her philosophy of how to bring children up.
Even though she demonstrated considerable artistic talent and a strong desire to use that talent her patents forced her into a “proper job”. The part of her story where a gypsy accurately foretold her future will leave you in utter amazement as will her journey to Australia.
