Welcome to part 2 of a 3-part Life & Times program featuring Reg Forrest.

In Part 1 we learned that Reg was born in Bairnsdale Victoria in 1929 and bought up in the shadow of the Great Depression. Times for the family were very hard and as a result Reg developed strong values in regard to discipline, respect for others and hard work. He also developed a strong sense of humanity.

Having moved to the Yarra Valley, Reg shares stories regarding the various jobs he had to undertake such as working Upper Yarra dam . But it was his work in the forest industry where you might learn a lot, such as the role of the lever-man, and the puller-out, at a timber mill.

Reg shares the story of how he met his wife, Lesley which is part of his story of how important local dances were in the 1940’s and 1950’s. He also proudly talks about his first car, a Holden FJ that he bought when he was 30 years of age – and his stories really are quite fascinating, as they are of a time in our history, which has fast slipped passed us.

His story picks up as he recalls what WWII meant to a young teenager.
