This is Part 2 of a 4-part program featuring the Life and Times of Australian singer – Marcie Jones.
In part 1 we learned that Marcie developed a love for music at a young age. She certainly had a a voice to match her desire to be a professional singer and in the early 1960’s convinced the Melbourne Group the Thunderbirds to let her sing with them at the age of fifteen.
Not too may years later she was singing professionally on the main teen program, the Go Show.
This week her story continues with the story of how she met the Cookie Sisters, a vocal trio, while working in Queensland.
This meeting led to the formation of the very talented and much loved –Marcie & The Cookies.
We also learn how she formed a deep and lasting friendship with iconic singer, Normie Rowe.
This would be a relationship that would lead to an engagement despite music management’s attempts to keep them apart as much as possible.
As a result of a national tour supporting the Monkees, her career blossomed which in turn led to entertaining Australian conscript & regular troops that had been sent to Vietnam.
We learn about the pressures of work and touring, exacerbated by a tour in the UK, which resulted in her engagement to Normie being broken off.
