Thanks to GetUp members like you, the staunch resistance from the frontlines of fracking in remote NT is now painted across our city streets.
Featuring proud Garawa and Yanyuwa man Gadrian Hoosan, Gunnai, Yorta Yorta, Gunditjmara and Wurundjeri artist Coree Thorpe shared a simple message — we don’t want fracking. Not now, not ever.
It represents thousands of Traditional Owners like Gadrian, who have spent nearly a decade protecting country and culture from cashed-up mining corporations who are desperate to start fracking. If they get the go-ahead, it would desecrate culture, country, and precious water supplies.
The Morrison Government and these same mining giants are working hand in glove, and just last week our Federal Government committed to a $21 million handout of public funds to fast track disastrous fracking plans in the NT.1
They may have money, but we have a people-powered movement that stretches from the cities to the bush. We stand for something greater than ourselves and work side by side with Traditional Owners to amplify their staunch resistance against vested interests who would pillage and destroy country, and cultural heritage.
Our power is our people. To match the long reach of these oil and gas execs and their mates in Parliament, we need to use that power to bring this story of resistance from one wall in inner-city Melbourne to every living room in the country.

It’s been a huge month for frontline communities in the NT who are tackling these mining corporations head-on.
Over 80 Traditional Owners from across the Northern Territory gathered in Darwin to have critical conversations and plan the next stage of their campaign to protect country from fracking.
They took those conversations straight to the halls of Parliament House in Canberra, sharing the disastrous impact fracking will have on groundwater, land, culture and the climate. A week later, the Senate voted to establish a Parliamentary inquiry into Morrison’s disastrous cash splash for the gas industry.2
This was made possible because of our movement. Tens of thousands of GetUp members like you have been walking alongside Traditional Owners for years, taking action in solidarity and amplifying their staunch resistance.
Our movement is a powerful vehicle for change. Together we have worked side by side with Traditional Owners right across the country to protect cultural heritage and sacred sites called for an end to the scourge of Black deaths in custody, and resourced the First Nations-led fight to end the threat of dangerous forced fracking in the NT. This is how we win.
Working together, we can put an end to Morrison’s dirty gas plans and protect water and country for generations to come.
