Stroke Foundation is thrilled to add a new category for the 2022 national Stroke Awards – the Young Stroke Champion Award.
Stroke Foundation Executive Director Stroke Services Lisa Murphy said many incredible children have entered, and been finalists, in other Stroke Awards categories in the past.
“We have had some amazing entries and have recognised you don’t need to be over the age of 18 to make a notable difference,” Dr Murphy said.
“Children have incredible creativity and drive – particularly when it is a cause they are passionate about.
“Many of the previous entrants have been impacted by the disease in a profound way – with a close family member or even themselves experiencing a stroke. I look forward to seeing the entries.”
The addition of the new category comes as Stroke Awards nominations open for 2022. The awards provide an opportunity to honour Australia’s unsung heroes of stroke and celebrate their courage, tenacity, service and creative endeavours.
The awards are open to survivors of stroke, carers, family members, volunteers, fundraisers, health professionals and researchers.
Dr Murphy encouraged people to visit the Stroke Foundation website and nominate now. Nominations close on Friday February 11, 2022. The winners will be announced at Stroke Foundation’s Stroke Awards ceremony in Melbourne in May next year.
Stroke Awards Categories:
- Young Stroke Champion Award – Recognises the significant contribution of person under 18 in stroke awareness, fundraising or advocacy.
- Improving Life after Stroke Award – Proudly sponsored by Australian Physiotherapy Association, Awarded to those who voluntarily dedicate their time to improving the care and support of survivors of stroke in the community.
- Creative Award – Proudly sponsored by Marmalade, Celebrating a survivor of stroke’s contribution to creative industries including writing, photography, music and fine art.
- Fundraiser of the Year Award– Proudly sponsored by Precision Fundraising, Recognises a fundraiser who has gone above and beyond to help raise awareness and funds for stroke in Australia.
- Courage Award – Proudly sponsored by Ipsen, Recognises the courage and hope shown by survivors of stroke and their carers in facing stroke recovery.
- Volunteer of the Year Award – Proudly sponsored by NAB Community, Awarded to outstanding volunteers whose dedicated service has made a significant difference.
- President’s Achievement Award – Recognises the exceptional individuals who have made a significant contribution.
