New Solo Exhibition by internationally acclaimed artist David Chen offers visitors a series of impressionist style works that celebrate the Melbourne lifestyle, both beach and city life. Melbourne art consultant Daniela from DB Fine Art Consultancy is proud to present David Chen’s new series of dynamic oil paintings. She says, “David is a masterful artist who has dedicated the past five years to painting this exceptional series of works.”
The artist David Chen reflects that while “Many artists are interested in depicting Venice, I have an enduring passion for painting impressions of the city of Melbourne, reflecting its alluring beauty and the city dwellers who create its dynamic life and movement.”
When people are rushing home at peak hour, David heads into the city to observe the frenetic energy which he later translates to canvas. He simply loves to paint Melbourne; he delights in the diffused light and glowing reflections on a rainy day, people bustling with umbrellas in the city streets, the delicate moonlight illuminating Princes Bridge or the vivid atmosphere of a Spring morning along the Yarra River.
Daniela sincerely hopes people will take the opportunity to visit the gallery to view the work personally. She says, “I believe it will prove to be a wonderful sensorial experience for visitors, as his paintings are luminous and his expressive brushwork is simply outstanding.”
A collection of his iconic Australian beach scenes will also be featured in this exhibition, varying in size from a significant work entitled “Late afternoon, Sorrento Back Beach” measuring two metres, to a poetic series of small ‘9×5’ paintings, honouring the legacy of the Australian impressionists of the Heidelberg School.
David’s coastal scenes often rejoice in the leisurely pleasure of beach life; figures relax under umbrellas in the soaring summer heat, and families gather on the shoreline under expansive skies. Daniela believes these intimate works “ entice the viewer to feel the elemental atmosphere in all its momentary beauty.”
David is reluctant to define his work by any one genre, viewing his art practice as an evolving and innovative journey. In his own words, he says, “I am not painting what I see; I paint what I want to see.” Visitors will find it fascinating to see familiar places of Melbourne reinterpreted and celebrated through the artist’s eyes.
David Chen is a multi-award-winning artist whose originality and refined style have been widely recognised and revered in the art world. While he remains modest about his illustrious career, he feels honoured to have exhibited his work at the National Gallery of Victoria, the National Museum of Australia and at the United Nations in New York. David is excited to be launching his innovative series of works in this latest Solo Exhibition. He is particularly happy to have the opportunity to share his new paintings with Melbourne art followers, who he believes love the city as much as he does!
