The original and most influential Aboriginal Rock Legends No Fixed Address stamped their sound on now a couple of generations of indigenous artists kicking the barriers down when they hit the road from CASM in South Australia where this varied mob of aboriginal kids took their futures into their own hands.
Breaking ground as they went starring and creating the soundtrack for AFI Award winning film and an album, Wrong Side of the Road, with fellow contemporary First Nations band Us Mob, touring the length and breadth of the nation bringing their message of resistance and hope to young people in many outback and city communities.
This is also the 35th anniversary of the release of the first commercial vinyl album. Released by Rough Diamond Records and produced by David Briggs (LRB) and signed and guided by Michael Gudinski at Mushroom Music having recorded their anthem album ‘From My Eyes’ the band set its eyes on taking their music to the world and had many successful international tours with Bart Willoughby in particular who continues to perform on the larger stages of the world.
No Fixed Address are celebrating their induction into the South Australian Hall of Fame late last year and are touring and playing their new and classic reggae rock…the best has become better and the new is amazing!
St Kilda is the bands spiritual home in Melbourne, their first appearance here upstairs at what is now Big Mouth, then Catherina Cabaret, headlining a sellout at legendary 3am night club, The Venue with Men at Work, Goanna and The Young Homebuyers and the band is playing a double bill with another Oz Psychadelic rock legends Madder Lake at St Kilda’s iconic Memo Music Hall.
MADDER LAKE
45 years after Madder Lake’s first single was released the band have performed continually since they got together in the early 70’s and have now one of the finest line ups these awesome, original Oz Psychedelic Rock masters. Michael O’Loughlin has joined the band as lead singer after the passing of Mick Fettes and provides powerhouse performances to the band’s classic songs, Goodbye Lollipop, 12lb Toothbrush etc and their newer music.
Madder Lake recorded ‘Goodbye Lollipop’ in 1972, gaining their record company Mushroom Records their first Gold Single for national sales in 1973, the year they also released their first Mushroom Records album, Stillpoint. More than 5 songs from this album were on high rotation on many Australian radio stations including the anthem song 12lb Toothbrush.
Memo Music Hall and the bands are donating 10% of the door as a fundraising event for St Kilda Arts Community Incorporated
