DELSINK PRESENTS “SING A SONG OF SIXPENCE”, WHICH HITS THE ROAD IN JANUARY AND FEBRUARY 

Songs are magical things: some fall suddenly from the ether, others are slow labours of love. All songwriters say it. Everyone has heard it. Universally, they’re inspired by personal experiences and observations of life and human nature. Sometimes their meaning remains – or, over time, becomes – a mystery. 

In reverence of such alchemy, Delsinki, the Melbourne singer-songwriter-multi-instrumentalist and man behind the much-loved “Keep The Circle Unbroken” series of shows inspired by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s iconic “Will The Circle Be Unbroken” album, presents “Sing A Song of Sixpence”. Taking its name from one of those songs – indeed a nursery rhyme – which remains a delicious mystery, “Sing A Song Of Sixpence” aims to give audiences an insight into the alchemy by giving them an experience of songwriters ‘in the round’. 

An age-old tradition – perhaps most famously rendered these days at Nashville’s iconic Bluebird Cafe – a writers’ round presents a number of  songwriters together on stage, taking turns. The writers share the bare bones of their songs and the stories behind them, in an intimate and informal setting, and they also interact, teasing more insight from each other. “Sing A Song of Sixpence” adds a unique instrumentalist or two to the proceedings, to help tease out more insight and to shine new lights and nuance on to the songs. A poignant and unpredictable experience, it enables artists to learn more about each other – and themselves – and it gives audiences rare insight and access into the creative processes. And the magic. 

Beginning in 2020, and of course, interrupted by Covid, “Sing A Song Of Sixpence” has already featured performances from a wide range of artists and instrumentalists, including Mick Thomas, Bachelor Girl, Penny Ikenger, Jack Howard, the Weeping Willows, Brooke Taylor,  Kee’ahn, Freya Josephine Hollick and Ruby Gill. In October of this year, an episode shot at the beautiful Memo Music Hall in St Kilda – the show of course was unavailable to be performed in front of an audience – was filmed and broadcast on Channel 31, and the footage here – featuring Bachelor Girl, Mick Thomas, Kerryn Fields, Grim Fawkner & James Howlett and accompanying musicians James Macaulay & Ester Henderson – illustrates the experience well.

A unique and entertaining heartfelt experience, “Sing A Song of Sixpence” is now set to present a series of concerts presented across many of Victoria’s iconic regional towns featuring an incredible line-up of artists & musicians. The tour will take place ahead of the release of Delsinki’s new solo album “City / Country”.
