Port Phillip Council is taking the retro Spotto game out of cars and into its distinctive streets and neighbourhoods in a competition to help activate public spaces and support traders.

A keen eye and a minimum $10 spend at a local business in January are all that’s required to be in the running for nine $1000 prize packs in this very local version of the Spotto game, usually played to while away the time in car trips.

The competition is part of Council’s extensive Live Love Local campaign, aimed at supporting the City’s social and economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We’ve printed 22,500 Spotto Game Cards. If they are all entered into the competition, and meet the required minimum spend, the direct benefit to Port Phillip’s economy will be $225,000,” Mayor Louise Crawford said.

“Many of our traders have done it tough during the COVID-19 pandemic and this is a great way to support local businesses while having fun learning more about our unique neighbourhoods,” Cr Crawford said.

Open to residents and visitors from 1-31 January, each of the nine neighbourhood cards feature 15 local icons associated with them, such as a luscious cake in Acland Street or tram in Balaclava/St Kilda East. The other neighbourhoods are Spring St South/Bay Street, Port Melbourne; Elwood; Fishermans Bend; Fitzroy Street; South Melbourne; Waterfront Place, Port Melbourne and Albert Park/Middle Park.

Game Cards are available at blue boxes at ten Community Parklets and two of the many Business Parklets in the City. Participants can have fun playing by themselves or being the first to spot all 15 icons when out and about with friends or family.

The Game Cards are returned to the box when completed, along with a receipt for a purchase of at least $10 from a business in that neighbourhood.

Each prize pack features $1000 worth of gift cards, purchased by Council from 90 local
businesses, which can be used at a range of stores across Port Phillip. Multiple entries are allowed and winners will be notified in February.
