BOOK OF EXODUS PART I

TICKETS ON SALE NOW | 6 MAY – 3 JUNE

★★★★½ “Brave, exciting and harrowingly beautiful theatre” – JASON BLAKE – SYDNEY MORNING HERALD

Dear friends of Theatre Works, we are deep in the rehearsal process for our next show – BOOK OF EXODUS PARTS I & II. Over the past 5 years,Fraught Outfit has been creating a trilogy of bold, large scale productions with young people. This trilogy includes On The Bodily Education of Young Girls, presented as part of the Melbourne Theatre Company, Neon Festival, and The Bacchae, which featured a group of 21 teenage performers and musicians. The Bacchae premiered at Theatre Works for the Melbourne Festival in 2015, and then toured to Dark Mofo in 2016.

“These are huge, big-hearted dangerous works… they are transformative. They remind us of what it is like to see theatre for the first time” CHRIS BOYD – THE AUSTRALIAN on THE BACCHAE

BOOK OF EXODUS is the final installment in this trilogy. EXODUS invokes spectacles of pure power; the plagues, the burning bush, the golden calf, and a community at the mercy of the law. The biblical BOOK OF EXODUS is commonly understood as the story of the liberation of ‘children of Israel’ from slavery in Egypt. When we strip away the narrative, we find a brutal and enigmatic template for systems of power which speak directly to our times.
In our production, the ‘children of Israel’ will be performed by an ensemble of child performers. In PART I two children excavate and record a history they cannot remember. In PART II a mass of children wait in the desert. With no leader to guide them, and no one to answer their cries, they summon an unruly force.

Part I premieres in June 2017 and Part II in October 2017. While we will produce each Part as an individual production, I urge you to book now for both shows to experience the piece in its entirety – below you will find dates and booking information, as well as a code for a limited time combination price.
Look forward to sharing this work with you all.
