Creative wares crafted by local artists and makers can be snapped up when St Kilda Esplanade Market reopens on Sunday (7 June), following the easing of Victorian Government COVID-19 restrictions.
The Market, now in its 50th year, is renowned for eclectic stalls featuring handcrafted homewares, jewellery, health and beauty products, gifts and accessories, as well as food and beverage outlets – all set against the picturesque setting of St Kilda Esplanade.
Councillor Andrew Bond said the reopening of the Market provides a great opportunity for locals and visitors to have fun while supporting members of the local arts community, which has been hard-hit by the pandemic.
“St Kilda Esplanade Market has been a much-loved Sunday outing for almost half a century so we couldn’t be happier that it is up and running again,” Cr Bond said.
“Visitors to the Market are reminded to play their part by practising good hygiene and observing physical distancing requirements at all times.”
Launched in December 1970, St Kilda Esplanade Market began as a mobile art exhibition to support local artists.
Over the years, the Market has become a repeat attraction for locals and visitors, with many emerging artists launching their careers against the backdrop of Luna Park, palm trees and St Kilda’s famous foreshore.
The Market is open Sundays from 10 am to 4 pm.
