Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a man’s body in Melbourne’s west early Friday morning, after a grim find in Tarneit parkland sparked a major police response.
Emergency services were called to a reserve near Bruny Drive about 4.30am on 15 May 2026 following reports that a man had been located deceased. Paramedics attended the scene but the man could not be revived and was declared dead at the scene.

The deceased man is yet to be formally identified.
Homicide detectives and forensic specialists descended on the area shortly after, establishing a crime scene and beginning a detailed examination of the parkland as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities have yet to confirm the circumstances of the death, with all lines of inquiry currently being considered.

Crime scene reporter and photographer Lord Murray Schoorman attended the scene in the early hours, capturing images of the police operation as it unfolded. Speaking with nearby residents, he said locals reported being woken from their slumber by a loud noise at approximately 2am, hours before the body was discovered.
“It’s a quiet area, so anything unusual stands out,” one resident told Schoorman. “My son heard something in the early hours, but no one thought it would turn into something like this. We have been told the man was killed elsewhere and his body was later dumped in our playground”
Images captured by Schoorman show a significant police presence, with officers cordoning off sections of the playground and conducting a meticulous search for evidence.

Investigators remained at the scene throughout the morning, canvassing the area and speaking with residents in an effort to piece together a timeline of events leading up to the discovery.
A postmortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
Police are urging anyone who was in the vicinity of Bruny Drive during the early hours of Friday morning, or who may have dashcam or CCTV footage, to come forward.
The investigation remains ongoing.

Detective Inspector Dean Thomas from the Homicide Squad is due to speak with media at 1pm today with an update.
