The Return Melbourne season marks a full-circle moment for the production, which premiered to stellar reviews at the Regent Theatre in 2021. Melbourne was the first international city to host the 10-time Tony award-winning show after its dazzling Broadway debut, with the season also coinciding with the 20th anniversary of Baz Luhrmann’s revolutionary film. The sold-out premiere season commenced in November 2021, and since opening around Australia has welcomed over one million Australian theatregoers with sold out seasons in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Brisbane.
Producer Carmen Pavlovic says, “We’re so thrilled to be bringing Moulin Rouge! The Musical back to Melbourne where we started our journey. Melbourne audiences welcomed us so warmly during what was a very challenging time during the Covid-19 pandemic. Our premiere season was cut short and we know a lot of people missed out. It seems only fitting that we return to the place where it all began to finish what we started; Melbourne will be the last chance to see the show before it closes in Australia.
Our aspiration was to create a show that genuinely surprises audiences – whether you have seen the movie or not. The show is so lavish, so bold and deeply romantic, guests should be prepared for a completely immersive sensory experience. The Australian production team that are integral in bringing our show to life are quite simply some of the best in the world and we cant wait to delight Melbourne one more time.”
In celebration of the show’s final season, Moulin Rouge! The Musical will host a very special Spectacular Sing-Along Performance on Tuesday 21st November 2023 at 7:00pm. This will be the one and only time audiences will be encouraged to sing along to some of their favorite songs from this musical mash-up extravaganza. Its not to be missed! Tickets for this special performance went on sale via Ticketek on Friday 14th July 2023 at 9am.
