A fierce pre-dawn blaze has gutted a Campbellfield house, prompting a major Fire Rescue Victoria response as flames tore through the single-storey property in Sycamore Crescent.
FRV crews were called to 18 Sycamore Crescent, Campbellfield 3061 shortly before 4.00am on Thursday 10 September 2026, after several reports of a house fire. Firefighters arrived within eight minutes, at 3.54am, to find the home fully involved in flames.The scale and intensity of the fire led authorities to escalate the response to a second alarm, with five pumpers, a rescue unit and two other specialist vehicles sent to the scene. In total, 24 firefighters attended under the tactical command of Commander Alex Faris.
Wearing breathing apparatus, crews mounted an urgent attack on the fire while working to stop it spreading to neighbouring homes.
Firefighters remained at the property on fire duty after the main blaze was brought under control, ensuring lingering hot spots were extinguished and the site made safe.
The cause of the fire is not yet known and will be investigated by FRV fire investigators.
Famous Australian photographer Lord Murray Schoorman of Peak Hour Images attended the scene as daylight broke, documenting the extensive damage left behind by the inferno.The property appeared to contain a significant volume of stored material, which may have contributed to a high fuel load and the rapid development of the fire. Authorities have confirmed this played a role in challenging conditions, but the circumstances surrounding the blaze remain under investigation.
It is understood the premises was unoccupied at the time.
